I had a friend over to my apartment the other night. While flipping through the Pyramid Collection catalog, I had to point out the small silver pen of the Doubtful Guest.
She had never heard of Edward Gorey! So, first off, I had to show her my poster of the Gashleycrumb Tinies, and then the Amphigories!
She was definately shocked, and a little horrified I think; though either she was just being very polite, or she actually kind of liked the morbid humor.
I have to admit, in the past, my exposing friends to Edward Gorey has never gone over very well. I actually had my first roommate at college move out after I plastered the Gashleycrumb tinies on the wall. (Well, she wanted the room themed with Winnie the Pooh in pink and beige.)
Just curious if anyone else has any stories of introductions to Gorey gone awry.

Re: Tee-hee
Fri, January 13, 2006 - 11:02 AMMy little brother likes him so on a vacation gathering at the family home I took a small pile to share. We were at the kitchen table hooting it up when mom came in, picked up a book, looked for a moment and simply said "Sick" while walking away. Me and my brother busted up. -

Sat, January 14, 2006 - 10:06 AMOw, teachers. Thinks were a lot simpler even back when I was in HS. I wouldn't be surprised if reading Edward Gorey books today in school might be grounds for monitoring from the guidance office.
Pity that. -

Sat, January 14, 2006 - 12:07 PMFunny, at least three of my college friends had the Gashlycrumb Tinies on their walls. We all thought it was great. Then again, I did go to art school. :) -
