About twenty-five years ago I went past a book in a shop with a Gorey cover it that was on a rather large textbook that I've never seen or heard of since. It has several of the Gorey bearded men in the foreground leering at sheep in the background. It was hysterical and would love it in the collection, but alas it’s no where to be found. Anyone know just what the book title may have been?

Tue, November 8, 2005 - 12:07 PMHad this message come through to me from a new member of our tribe and thought to share. No hard copies are available but it’s still sold in paperback. This is one hell of a cool cover.
Jim totally rules!
Steve,
The Edward Gorey book you were curious about in your May posting is:
BRAINSTORMS: Philosophical Essay on Mind and Psychology, by Daniel Dennett, published by M.I.T. in 1981 (Hardcover) & 1985 (prbk.) Gorey did the cover for this scholarly book.

Mon, November 14, 2005 - 10:42 PMDoes that mean he browses the tribe? That's a wealth of marketing info for him. It was kind of him to answer you, even third hand. -

Re:Yeah!
Tue, November 15, 2005 - 9:45 AMUnsure but was extremely pleased that he did. Jim is new to our tribe and to the tribe in general, actually he lists only Gorey on his homepage for tribes.
Gorey did so much cover art that it seems virtually impossible to know the complete oeuvre. My challenge now will be to find a hard copy, but may settle for just a reprint since it is the cover I'm interested in. -

Thu, December 22, 2005 - 3:05 PMTry abebooks.com
They're fantastic for merging a bunch of out of print booksellers into one site. There's an even better site out there that includes abebooks but sadly I cannot recall what it is.
I bet you can find a hardcopy with a little diligence though... good luck! :)
